Raksha Bandhan or Rakhi is a Indian (Hindu) festival primarily observed in India. This year Raksha Bandhan celebrates on 21 August 2013 on Wednesday in all over India. It usually comes in August every year. Specially Raksha Bandhan festival is a the bond of protection for sisters, mothers & girls.

Sometimes it is also called Rakhi Purnima because it falls in Shravan month during full moon day or Purnima day. On this day, as a ritual, Sisters tie a sacred colorful thread called "Rakhi" on the wrist of their brothers and also pray for their long and happy life. The main motive behind this festival is that, it is the sacred & unconditional love bond & siblings between brothers and sisters.

First of all, the legend of Queen Karnavati & Mughal Emperor Humayun is that, when Bahadur Shah Jafar of Mewar attacks on the Chittor's Rajput Kingdom of Queen Karnavati, she sent a Rakhi to Mughal Emperor Humayun of Delhi seeking her help. Mughal Emperor Humayun knows the significance of Rakhi and protect her against the Bahadur Shah Jafar of Mewar attack.

Secondly the legend of King Bali and Goddess Laxmi is also popular one.

Third one is also very famous legend behind it, which belongs to Yama (the God of death) and Yamuna.
